SCIATICA TREATMENT

Sciatica can cause pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that travels from your lower back into your buttock and down your leg, making everyday activities uncomfortable. At Bayview North Family Chiropractic, we take the time to understand what's contributing to your symptoms by assessing your spine, hips, pelvis, movement patterns, and nerve function. From there, we'll create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals.
WHAT IS SCIATICA?

Sciatica describes symptoms caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in your body. It isn't a diagnosis itself but rather a symptom of another condition, such as a herniated disc, spinal stenosis, Piriformis Syndrome, or other sources of nerve irritation. Depending on the underlying cause, symptoms may include pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness that travels down one leg.
COMMON SYMPTOMS WE SEE
-
Pain in the buttock, back of the thigh, or leg
-
Burning or shooting pain that radiates downward
-
Numbness or tingling (pins and needles)
-
Muscle weakness in the leg or foot
-
Symptoms that worsen with sitting, bending, or coughing

WHY AN ASSESSMENT MATTERS

Sciatica is a symptom—not a diagnosis. Several different conditions can irritate the sciatic nerve, so identifying the underlying cause is an important part of creating the most appropriate treatment plan.
