IT BAND SYNDROME TREATMENT

Pain on the outside of your knee or hip can make running, walking, climbing stairs, or even sitting for long periods uncomfortable. At Bayview North Family Chiropractic, we take the time to understand what's contributing to your symptoms by assessing your hips, knees, lower back, posture, and movement patterns. From there, we'll create a personalized treatment plan designed to reduce discomfort, improve mobility, and help you return to the activities you enjoy.
WHAT IS IT BAND SYNDROME?

The iliotibial (IT) band is a thick band of connective tissue that runs along the outside of your thigh from your hip to your knee. IT Band Syndrome develops when this tissue becomes irritated, often due to repetitive movement, training errors, muscle imbalances, or changes in running mechanics. It's one of the most common overuse injuries seen in runners and active individuals.
COMMON SYMPTOMS WE SEE
-
Pain or burning sensation on the outer knee or thigh
-
Pain that worsens with running, especially going downhill
-
Tenderness when touching the IT band
-
Tightness in the outer hip or thigh muscles
-
A repetitive clicking or snapping sensation at the knee
WHY AN ASSESSMENT MATTERS

Pain on the outside of the knee isn't always caused by the IT band. Hip weakness, knee conditions, or lower back problems can create similar symptoms. A thorough assessment helps determine what's contributing to your discomfort so treatment can be focused where it's needed most.
HOW WE TREAT IT BAND SYNDROME AT BAYVIEW NORTH FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC

Your care begins with a thorough assessment of your hips, knees, pelvis, posture, and movement patterns to better understand what's contributing to your symptoms. Based on your assessment findings, your treatment plan may include gentle chiropractic adjustments when clinically appropriate, targeted soft tissue therapy, mobility work, strengthening exercises, and recommendations to improve your movement mechanics.
For persistent soft tissue irritation, Shockwave Therapy may also be recommended when clinically appropriate.
NOT SURE IF YOUR OUTER KNEE PAIN IS FROM THE IT BAND?
