Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing response in injured or painful tissues. It’s particularly effective for chronic or stubborn conditions that haven’t improved with other treatments.

By promoting increased blood flow, breaking down scar tissue, and encouraging tissue regeneration, shockwave therapy can help accelerate recovery and relieve pain.

Common Conditions Treated

Shockwave therapy is commonly used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

  • Plantar fasciitis

  • Tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow

  • Shoulder tendinopathy and rotator cuff issues

  • Shin splints

  • Patellar tendinosis (jumper’s knee)

  • Calcific tendonitis (e.g., supraspinatus tendon)

  • Hip, knee, or Achilles pain

  • Hamstring strains

  • Back and neck pain

  • Chronic muscle or ligament injuries

Whether the issue is acute or long-standing, shockwave therapy can be an effective tool in reducing pain and restoring function.

Who Should Avoid Shockwave Therapy?

While shockwave therapy is safe for many patients, it’s not suitable for everyone. It should be avoided in the following cases:

  • Pregnancy

  • Active infection in the treatment area

  • Malignant tumors

  • Use of oral anticoagulants

  • Recent steroid injection (within 6 weeks)

  • Under the age of 18

  • Blood clotting disorders

  • Presence of pacemakers or implanted electronic devices

  • Over air-filled organs (e.g., lungs)

  • Over major nerves or blood vessels

Your healthcare provider will perform a thorough assessment to determine if shockwave therapy is appropriate for your specific condition.

Benefits of Shockwave Therapy

Patients often experience:

  • Reduced pain levels

  • Improved mobility and function

  • Accelerated tissue healing

  • Minimal to no downtime after treatment

Shockwave therapy is an excellent complement to chiropractic care, rehabilitation programs, and performance recovery strategies, helping patients return to daily activities or sports more quickly and comfortably.
